Yoga for Healing: A Trauma-Informed Yoga Class

Autoimmune and chronic health conditions often have their roots in lifelong stress patterns that begin in childhood. Early life trauma and stress can alter the functioning of our stress-response system, making it challenging to find ease in the body. Trauma-informed yoga is based on a particular understanding of trauma, one that emphasizes its impact on the entire mind-body system, as opposed to particular mental states (e.g., troubling memories) viewed in isolation from the physical body. “Trauma,” Bessel van der Kolk explains, “is not just an event that took place sometime in the past; it is also the imprint left by that experience on mind, brain, and body.”

Research has shown yoga practices to heal the effects of trauma on the brain and body. By reducing autonomic sympathetic activation (aka fight or flight response), muscle tension, inflammation, and blood pressure, improving neuroendocrine and hormonal activity, decreasing physical symptoms and emotional distress, yoga can increase our quality of life.

In this hour-long yoga class, we will slow down, balance effort with effortlessness, breathe and gently relax into our bodies. Open to all levels.

I have personally found yoga, and specifically trauma-informed yoga therapy to be one of the most powerful mindfulness practices in my healing path that has helped calm my nervous system and lower inflammation. It’s also aligned with my passion for psychoneuroimmunology, the study of the mind on our health and resistance to disease.
I look forward to sharing an hour of gentle healing movement, meditation, and breath with you.

"I recommend Chef Angela to friends all the time.  I tell them what amazing evenings I have had socializing with others in the community while enjoying Angela's exquisitely prepared food.  I also tell them how her dishes and desserts are the most high-quality and unique paleo fare I have ever had the pleasure to taste.  She prepares all of her meals and desserts with care, precision and beauty and creates experiences that are truly unforgettable.  And, she shares her knowledge with others so that we can bring the type of vibrant dishes that she creates into our own homes.  I love Chef Angela!"  Alexandra Davis. "From the moment we walked into the event, I felt I was among friends for a delightful, intimate dinner party. We were led through a succession of beautifully presented courses, each one bursting with flavor and giving a feeling of well-being. Chef Angela's passion, dynamism, and mastery kept us all enthralled.  At the same time, we had plenty of time to meet other guests and the delicious food was accompanied by enjoyable conversation. I loved the food and learned so much about how to make refined food that would work well at a dinner party and cater for any diet. I am excited to make events at Chef Angela's a part of my life and to introduce friends to this wonderful experience."  Sara Boas. Founder and Owner of Boas Consulting. www.boastl.com
